Living in Community
Cohousing is a type of collaborative housing in which residents actively participate in the design and operation of their own neighborhoods according to the Co-Housing.org website.
The Triangle has several fine examples of the concept located in Durham and Chapel Hill/Carborro.
Giles Bluden is the architect of Arcadia and in my estimation one of the local experts and proponents of this innovative lifestyle.
Winmore Chapel Hill’s first mixed use green community is coming and Giles is the consultant. While it’s not a 55 exclusive it has many of the community features common to co-housing and active adult communities. More in a future post!
Here’s a list of the current local communities.
